Are you ready to get married? Even if the wedding date is already set, there are many other things to consider. Failing to prepare for these aspects can ruin one of the most important days in your life. So here are backyard wedding ideas to help ensure a successful event.
Why Get Married in the Backyard
Some people might scoff at the idea of having their wedding in such a personal and familiar place, but that’s the beauty of it. This is where you spent a good chunk of your childhood — and it’s especially a great choice if you and your partner were long-time neighbors. It’s a location filled with memories. And one of the best advantages of having your wedding at your own backyard is that you can easily transform it into any kind of theme. With a few design ideas and the right accessories, you can easily transform it into a beautiful rustic wedding venue.
Likewise, backyard weddings compel you to choose your guests wisely. Only a small number of people can attend. And if you choose those closest to you, they won’t have to worry about being somewhere they’ve never been before. There’s a sense of comfort to keep your guests relaxed.
Furthermore, you can have your pets around for the biggest day of your life. Everyone who’s ever had a pet knows that they’re a part of the family. Your dogs and cats can stay close to you without any stress. And of course, backyard weddings help you save money and spend what you have on other things.
Preparing the Area
A simple yet beautiful way to protect your guests from an unexpected drizzle or a hot day is to place umbrellas above. You can hang them along with flowers of various colors. Also, you can just give your guests personalized umbrellas.
The seats are entirely up to you. Try going for the classic white chairs and wooden benches or use pastel-colored seats. Remember that the reception takes place after tying the knot, so it would be practical if the same seats can accommodate your guests while they eat and converse.
If you don’t have enough space, it’s okay if some of the guests stand for a while. They can just eat in the dining room or even in the living room. What’s important is for the kids and older guests to have seats. We recommend getting a little bit more seats and tables than necessary just in case.
Respecting the Neighbors
One thing you don’t want to happen is for the authorities to arrive due to neighbor complaints. Even if it’s your special day, you must keep things in order for others around your residence. You should know where your guests will park their cars, especially if you don’t have enough space on your own property.
Check if your area allows street parking and if there is, determine whether there are sufficient spots for all the guests. Renting a parking lot is also an option. Don’t forget to remind your guests where they can park — and make signs or send a map online to help them navigate to your place.
Talk to your neighbors about your backyard wedding. Promise them that noise won’t continue until late at night. If you think that the number of bathrooms in your house isn’t enough, rent a portable toilet or two. And don’t forget to have extra packs of toilet paper and soap, among other essentials.
Cleaning Up Trash
Be prepared for the amount of food waste and trash. Have large trash bags ready for easy disposal. Likewise, get additional trash bins and place them at the edges of the yard. Don’t wait for too long — check the containers every few hours or so if they’re already filled to the brim.

Aside from the buffet at the reception, you should also have a mini bar in your backyard. Simply allocate one table for all the wine and beer. You can either ask someone to bartend for the day or just have your guests prepare their own drinks. Have enough ice in the freezer, especially if it’s going to be a hot day.
