A compact bathroom has a distinct charm. However, physical limitations make it difficult to store all the toiletries and other items. Is there a way to organize your stuff without expanding your bathroom? Yes, all you need to do is to apply small bathroom storage ideas — many of which you’ll find below.
Maximizing the Wall Space
Bathroom walls have huge potential when it comes to storage due to their size. For one, why not have floating shelves? In particular, the use of stacked shelves on the wall is perfect since their height and number is up to you. Your towels, shampoo, and skincare products can occupy different levels.
Furthermore, a floating shelf with a rod attached under it gives you a place to hang your towel. Just three stacks are enough for most people, but it’s up to you to add more. Doing so allows you to place decorative plants and event scented candles alongside your toiletries.
If floating shelves aren’t your thing, perhaps floating baskets will do the trick? These are easy to install on the wall as well. Baskets are usually placed inside linen closets, but they work well against the wall too. Plus, baskets have raised areas on each side to keep your bathroom essentials from falling.
For those who prefer very minimalist wall storage, a thin but long floating shelf works wonders. It barely takes up any additional space and it’s perfect for makeup or skincare products. Tiny potted plants would look amazing on a sleek wall shelf — adding a refreshing, natural vibe in the bathroom.
Keeping Track of Your Items
You should make great use of your linen closet. Instead of using the exact same baskets, you should look for containers with different sizes and designs. Doing so allows you to group objects by their size. Also, it is easier to locate the right basket in the closet if they’re all different.
Speaking of basket sizes, you can get a tiered basket display. They usually have between two to four levels — the lower the tier, the bigger the basket. Each tier has holes to let the water drip down the floor. And to help you remember where each item is located, consider sticking labels on containers.
Placing Around the Toilet
The area nearest to the toilet might seem like an unsightly place for storage, but a small bathroom makes every part near it in the first place. Thus, don’t be afraid to utilize what little space is available beside or above the toilet. Install towel rods on one side or right above it for easy access.
Beside the toilet, there’s likely enough space for a narrow rack or shelf. This is a good place to keep your pocketbooks, newspapers, and magazines. The lowest tiers can also accommodate toilet-cleaning tools. However, do be careful to keep the toilet seat down if you plan on installing floating shelves above.
Hooks, Mirrors, and Unusual Bathroom Items
If you don’t want floating panels on the wall, get some hooks instead. Both nail-in hooks and adhesive hooks require simple installation even on the bathroom door. This way, you can easily hang your jacket, cap, and pants if you’re in a hurry to go to the bathroom.
Aside from them, you can also make use of wine racks, mesh shoe organizers, and plant holders. Having mirrored cabinets is also a smart storage decision. The cabinets don’t stand out once they’re closed — your guests will only see the mirrors that create the illusion of a much bigger bathroom.

Small Bathroom Storage Ideas
If you will use a rack, shelf, or cabinet in the bathroom, you should consider installing wheels below them. This will help you reorganize the area without having to drag and carry the items all the time. Likewise, you can quickly remove wheeled storage items before cleaning the bathroom.
