Birthdays only happen once a year, so it’s important to make them as special as possible. When you were a kid, birthdays were taken care of by the adults in your life, but now, it’s up to you to make sure you have a great time with the people you love (or, if you’re lucky, a considerate partner). If your birthday is coming up and you want to make it a special one, here are five ways to make it happen.
1: Throw a Party
Birthdays and parties go hand in hand. Whether you’re turning twenty-one, thirty-five, or sixty-five, a birthday party is always a good idea. It doesn’t just have to be for the big ones like turning fifty!
Parties aren’t just good for celebrating your birth, though; it’s also a way to bring everyone you love together. It’s not always easy to get all your friends and family in the same room, after all. Make it special by hiring professional event bartenders and caterers, as it’s not every day you get to show off as a host.
2: Let Yourself Splurge
If you can’t let yourself splurge on your birthday, when can you? If you’ve been thinking about a pair of shoes or a concert ticket, but you’ve had no excuse to push yourself to purchase, now is the time to do it.
Think of it as a birthday present for yourself! It’s not just money where you should splurge, either. Let yourself indulge in some you time with a pampering session or even something as simple as a movie night.

3: Book Time off Work
To make your birthday extra special, book the day (or the day after) off work. While you might miss some ‘happy birthdays’ from your co-workers, you’ll get to wake up knowing that the entire day can be spent doing whatever you like. Even if you decide to watch Netflix from your bed, having some time off work is the perfect way to treat yourself on such a special day.
4: Take a Trip
Another great way to make your birthday feel special is by taking a trip. Where you go depends on your tastes and the time of year your birthday falls on. If you are a summer baby, you could hit the nearest beach and spend a few days soaking up a tan.
If you were born in the winter, a cozy log cabin with a hot tub would be perfect. Whether you take your friends or your partner, a birthday trip is always one to remember.
5: Spend Time with Friends and Family
Your birthday is the perfect opportunity to see your friends and family, especially those you haven’t seen in a long time. If you want to make your birthday special, but you don’t feel like going all out with a party, then hanging out with friends and family can be enough.
Invite them over for dinner, go out to a restaurant, or simply pop around to say hello when your special day rolls around. After all, what’s better than spending quality time with those you love the most?
