How to Design a Man Cave for Your Other Half

Last Updated on July 20, 2023 by Kimberly Crawford

If you want to make your man a unique gift he will remember forever and brag to his friends about, build them a man cave. They will appreciate pretty much anything you build for them, as long as you take the time to learn about the things they like and make the space perfect for their main activities.

It also needs to be somewhere he’ll feel comfortable in and where he’ll be able to entertain. It doesn’t have to be over the top either, as long as you build the space for them and not according to your idea of what they would like. Let’s take a look at how you can design the perfect man cave for your other half.

Look at His Favourite Sports and Pastime

The first thing you’ll have to come up with is a theme. As long as you pick something they resonate with, you shouldn’t overthink the design. The most important thing is finding out what they like and going along these lines.

Some might be into football or basketball, but others might be more into gaming. These are all things that you’ll have to take into consideration when choosing a theme.

The minute you have what they’re into the most, it will be easy to find something that they like. Anything that aligns with their tastes is likely to work.

Look at the Flooring

Flooring is one of the first things you have to look at when building any room, but especially a man cave. You want the space to feel both luxurious and comfortable.

Laminated hardwood floors are usually the norm for swanky sports bars and VIP lounging areas. This is the type of ambiance you want to replicate. We understand that you may not have the money to have hardwood installed, however. In this case, floating engineered hardwood floors will work just fine.

Paint

Painting a game room should be fun as you can let your imagination run free. You can look at things such as decals or funky patterns, such as large wall stripes, for instance. Here, you could also look at their favourite team or sport and go for a palette that is inspired by it.

Creature Comforts

Every man cave needs a big screen. Maybe two. Make sure that they have a nice main area with plenty of seating, lighting, and a great monitor that is visible from every part of the room.

You should also consider making a few cool additions like old-school arcades or some type of simulator machine. This is the type of thing that will take the room to the next level. If they like watching sports, but they also like to play them, a golf simulator or a basketball arcade game would be great additions that are sure to blow them away.

As you can see, building a nice man cave for your hubby shouldn’t be that much of a challenge. The most important step is respecting their taste, and if you’re in doubt, don’t be afraid to ask for suggestions.
