One easy Valentine’s Day arts and crafts project involves making homemade valentines for family members and friends. For this kids’ craft project, the following materials will be required:

The card can be made out of construction paper (folded in half or in quarters); it can then be decorated with markers or crayons, paper hearts, conversation hearts candy (glued onto the paper) and glitter (tip: use glue to write words, then sprinkle glitter over the text for glittery text!)

Older children who can read and write may enjoy looking up Valentine’s Day quotes and sayings, which can be added to the card. Younger children may enjoy writing simple traditional Valentine’s Day sayings like “Be My Valentine,” “Be Mine” or simply “Happy Valentine’s Day.”

An imitation stained glass Valentine’s Day window hanging makes for a fun kids’ arts and crafts project. This project will require the following supplies:

  • X-acto knife
  • Pencil
  • Construction Paper (black
  • Pink, Red and Valentine’s Day-themed Tissue Paper
  • Glue
  • Masking Tape
  • Stencils (optional)
  • Hole Punch
  • Ribbon, Yarn or Twine
  • Suction Cup with Hook

To create a cute Valentine’s Day window hanging, kids should begin with two pieces of construction paper that will need to be aligned and taped together along the edges with masking tape. Then, the kids must draw hearts and other designs onto the paper with a pencil; stencils can be used as a guide.

Then, an adult must cut out the hearts and other Valentine’s Day designs from the two layers of construction paper, which will serve as a frame for the “stained glass.” Parents should use an X-acto knife to cut out the shapes; for safety reasons, kids should not use an X-acto knife.

Next, the two pieces of construction paper will be separated and kids will cut out pieces of colored tissue paper that will be glued over the heart-shaped holes that were created in the previous step.

Then, the second piece of construction paper is glued onto the other piece; it should be glued onto the same side as the tissue paper. The tissue paper is the “stained glass” and it will be illuminated when it’s placed in the window.

To finish this arts and crafts project, punch a hole in the top and thread a piece of yarn, ribbon or twine through the hole and hang the child’s homemade window hanging using a suction cup with a hook.

This kids’ craft project will create a cute window hanging that makes a nice homemade Valentine’s Day decoration for the child’s bedroom; it’s also a cute homemade Valentine’s Day gift for a parent or sibling.

Parents can also customize this project; instead of using a square piece of construction paper, it can be cut into the shape of a heart and the different shapes can be cut into the heart-shaped frame.
